This design was submitted by Michael T. Henderson. Michael works here at Lincoln and has created a wide array of graphics for various purposes. This design incorporates a new navigation structure which utilizes dual button bars. The top bar is static throughout the site and the bottom bar will change to reflect pertinent areas of the page the user is currently viewing. This design uses a splash image that will link to a feature story or piece of information. The home page design will be mimicked on the major landing pages so each area can highlight information for their specific area.
Clicking on the image below will take you to a developmental site where you can see the basic functionality of the hover navigation. When the site is developed, the bottom-level navigation bar that you see here will be links. In this mock up design, it’s only displaying the sub-navigation text to give everyone an idea of what content is planned for each area.

I created this design in an effort to incorporate the marketing material Lincoln uses for admissions recruiting. The “Dream Big” theme and splash of red is a part of the branding used in that material. The web strategies committee also expressed an interest in utilizing a design with a home page that displays without scroll. The news and upcoming events items are dynamically generated, giving a large portion of the page fresh content on a regular basis, preventing the site from having a “stale” air about it. The navigation structure is new and also rolls out a second bar when the tabs are hovered.

This is where you get to voice your opinion about the proposed new LU calendar. This calendar is web-based and will be available to everyone on the web. The purpose of the new calendar is to consolidate all of Lincoln’s events in one place that’s easily accessible. We added some really neat functionality too. A user can select as many or as few department’s calendars as they like. Each department is color-coded. The system will archive events and news and users will be able to search for past and future information. You can download events to your Outlook calendar with a click. RSS feeds are integrated for each department’s calendar. We hope each department will have a feed to their main page on the LU website, providing fresh, up-to-date content throughout the website.
Check it out and leave your feedback!

Welcome!
Lincoln University has begun the process of redesigning and updating their website. In 2007 LUTC (Lincoln University Technology Committee) formed a subcommittee for Web Strategies to investigate and recommend a new look and feel for the site as well as determining what content updates need to be made to provide valuable web-based services to our alumni, faculty, staff, students and parents.

Check out the redesign area and look at the two designs Web Strategies has recommended to the LUTC:

Content Updates
For content, there is a proposed calendar upgrade to review. It provides the ability to narrow your view of events to specific areas on campus or see everything that’s going on. Each department is color-coded to help the user discern which events pertain to which department when multiple calendars are selected. The departments with calendars will be able to post their own calendar of events on their area of the LU website. RSS feeds have been incorporated into the system and you can even download events to your own Outlook calendar if you like. The administrative panel of this system allows for input of an expiration date so news and events can be entered and archived without creating a long list of outdated information displayed on the LU home page.
Check out the new calendar.
Tools for the Web
Using this blog is also a test for the University. We’re looking for a good campus-wide blogging tool to enable open discussion (or private discussion when desired) on various University-related topics. Try it out, post your comments, ask questions, make suggestions!
